The Lighting Design course teaches that great lighting design goes beyond the need for basic visibility into the realm of shadows, angles and colours. Lighting designers work closely with stage direcĀtors to bring out the intent of the production through mood, atmosphere, composition and focus. Lighting technicians must work with the sensitivity of an artist so that onstage dramatic effects and timing can be effectively communicated.
The course covers text graphic skills and the use of systems and equipment, including computer-based technologies. Numerous production assignments help students to refine their skills and build substantial portfolios of their work. Over the course of their studies, students will produce original and expressive artistic work for the stage and acquire the intellectual, technical and creative skills to embark on a professional career as a lighting designer.
